Where are all my regular chat people?! WHERE ARE YOU!?!?! I want to talk now! This morning I was struck with inspiration for a new story! Weeeee! I'm so excited.
Ok, I wanted to talk about my future story plans anyway, so I guess I'll do that now. As some of you may know, I was kicking around the idea of a sequel for Mad World. I was in the stage where I could see it happening, but I could see it not happening. IOW, I didn't have a clear idea just a vague desire. Well, I've decided for now not to write a sequel. And here's why:
1) After I post the final chapter, I won't be done with this story. In fact, it looks like Mad World will be my project for Advanced Creative Writing. Which means rewrites and additions and other stuff. This is not a finished product, rahter a first draft, and as such, I won't feel comfortable continuing the story.
2) I have the final run of chapters plotted out. I know exactly what's going to happen. If I tried to pull off a sequel, I'd either have to change the ending, or the ending would be almost meaningless. Either way, that doesn't make me happy.
3) As mentioned above, I have a new story in mind. It just came to me this morning while i was making breakfast, but I love it. I'm very happy and excited about it. Ok, I actually have two stories in mind, but the other one I don't want to write quite yet.
The story that I have in mind that I'm not writing yet is a continuatin of Father William. Let me give you a little background. When I was 16, I was a very devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Went to church, to seminary, read my scriptures, studied the history of the Church and the prophets, did everything I should do. And now...well...now I'm an atheist. What could have happened in the span of 5 years that I would have changed so much?
Father William would be a story about a man who struggles with his faith, loses it, and it's the best thing that ever happened to him. There are lots of stories where one struggles withtheir faith and finds it again and it's uplifting and beautiful...well, that's not always how it happens. This story will be very personal and very difficult to write because I will be drawing on my own experiences and really putting myself in a vulnerable position. That's one reason I'm not going to write it right now. Also, I still ahve to figure out how I'm going to post it. On my LJ with heavy warnings like Mad World? Friendlocked? Private Yahoo Group? Religion is atouchy subject, and I will not tolerate being attacked or flamed because I'm not going to be protraying it in a positive light. Most of my readers ( even close to all) I dont have to worry about because y'all are the greatest, most intelligent, mature audience a person can ask for.
But there's always one or two that have to ruin it for everybody.
Ok, the story that came to be today is one I'm very excited about. It'll be set in Southern Utah around the 1860s. Buffy (who will not be called Buffy, I don't think....) is going to be living and working on a farm by herself. Her husband is dead, murdered, and the people of the community do not like her. SHe's not LDS (A big deal in Utah in this era...), she wears pants, she acts and works like a man...etc. One day she's out riding and comes across Spike (who will probably not be called Spike)...he' shot, near death. She takes him home and nurses him...and well...more things happen. like barn sex.
Anywho, thoughts? Reflections? Complaints? compliments? Gay sex?
ETA: I mentioned they probably wouldn't be called "Buffy" and "Spike" in the story, but only because I was concerned that wouldn't fit inwith the time era. But fuck it, I'll make it work.

'cause as you said, there will be people who aren't going to like it at all.
but what bugs me is that there are people who know that they won't like it, reads in anyway, and then trashes the author.
so, I really hope that that wont happen to you 'cause you don't deserve to be trashed in any kind of way...
and I really think that you are amazing for wanting to write about something that is as you said, "very personal and very difficult to write because I will be drawing on my own experiences and really putting myself in a vulnerable position" and that you aren't afraid to do it.
oh and the gay sex, that sounds good right about now..lol..

Stupid people who read stories they KNOW they won't like and criticize the author 'cause they don't have the same views. Ruin things for the rest of us *grumble*...
Oh and since you asked... I shower you with scads of compliments on your fic. You've made me see AU in a whole new, completely addicted light. So what are you wasting your time worrying about the touchy people who know what they are getting themselseves into. Write instead! :)

I would never ever miss this story. Your idea sounds just incredible. I love the situation and oh ... the possibilities ... and yes, this viewpoint is hardly ever covered ... people who come to atheism are generally afraid to discuss it openly because it's so unpopular. This is all very controversial.
Much more so than "Older" I think.
However you decide to post it, I look forward to reading it ... even if I have to jump through hoops to give you that gay sex!!

Forgot to mention I'm terribly excited about BOTH of these stories. The Buffy/Spike situation in Utah is absolutely wonderful ... the feminism, the intolerance and bigotry, everything. I'm dying to read it.
Oh, and yes, of course, the barn sex!!

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. You're absolutely right about how this is usually done, and even more right that that's not how it always happens. I think Father William could be a story with a lot of meaning for a lot of people, not just yourself.
I understand why you'd want to do a yahoo group or something to prevent any intolerant asshats from ruining it for everyone... but I don't think you should have to protect a story that presents a non-conventional take on religion, especially in your own journal.
I feel like there are a lot more people in this community with non-conventional religious views, whatever the specifics of those views might be, than conventional religious types. And even a lot of the latter among your fand would surely jump to your defense if any jerks showed up; but if you think the jerks would bother you too much, with a story so close to your heart, by all means do whatever will make you feel comfortable. As long as I can still read it ;)
Love the other story idea, too. Ah, feminism and barn sex. Mmmm.

It is unfortunate that people think that just b/c your journal is public, anyone's journal is public, that they can attack you without recognizing that this is a *journal* and really, they should scroll past nad not hop on their soapboxes. We should not have to censor ourselves. And i would hope that you don't have to either, whether in your writing or simply journal entries.
Either way, I'm sure your fans will follow.

I look forward to reading your newest stories. The Father William idea is very interesting. I know religion can be a touchy subject. I'll jump through hoops if necessary in order to read it. No flaming.

The Father William story sounds intriguing. I agree with other posters and say that maybe doing what Nautibitz did with Older might be an idea.

Besides, I'm also really curious as to your new idea. I agree, it's easy to set up a yahoo group in which you'd have to agree to a disclaimer to view the fic.

As for names, William and Elizabeth would better fit the 1860s and still keep the feel of "Buffy and Spike". "Buffy" might even work as it was a pet form of Elizabeth and not totally uncommon in the past.

On #2: Thank god. In that you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Also? YOU are the author. You do what you see fit, and as the reader, I will trust you.
On #3: Religion is indeed a touchy subject, but there's just something about a handsome priest (which of course Spike would be) that sends all those taboo sexual-senses a-tingle.
If you really want to be safe, set up your own YahooGroup so you can be fairly sure of avoiding inflamitory statements, or just below the belt angry remarks.
As far as the Utah story goes. I'm afraid I don't know that I can go with you for that one. I grew up there. And was not a Mormon. Dredges up too many bad memories for me. You're a brave girl for facing them yourself. Good on you.

Mr. William--What happens after they fall in love...it doesn't end at Happily Ever After. (Well it did, but it was hard getting there!)
Mad World--Evil!Spike and Ruthless!Buffy, and love doesn't save the world or make things right.
Father William--When losing your faith is a good thing.
Utah Fic--Um, sweaty cowboy Spike. Actually, this is about shades of gray and survival.
So, if I have a theme to go with stepsiblings, I'll write it...

I was formerly LDS as well, quit the church around 12, and then became an atheist.
Very odd thing to have in common with someone, though with this in mind, I am definitely looking forward to this story to see your perspective on spirituality, or lack thereof.

I consider myself to be more of a spiritual person than a religious person though, and I embrace all faiths. Wicca, Buddhism, Shintoism, Hindu, so forth and so on...it's all good. It's a shame that a lot of other Christians don't feel that way.
And I can understand why some people run screaming into the night from the repressive legalism of certain religious groups. Darned legalism. >_<
BTW, have you ever heard of a comic book called Battle Pope? I think you'd really get a kick out of it.
Having said all that, I want to say that I loved your Father William story. It was deliciously taboo.
I may or may not read the continuation of Father William, but only because I like my religious taboo stories to be frothy and have no big deep meanings. I'd feel the same way if you said Father William lost his faith and then found some kind, any kind, of faith again. It's the same reason I don't read Alan Moore sometimes. I get Deep Thoughts overload every now and then.
But I definitely think you should write it. It obviously has resonance with a lot of people and yourself.
And I say do whatever you have to do to protect yourself from the morons that are too stupid to pass it by if it's not their bag. I really hate it when people are warned of the content and then complain about said content. Grrr!
The 1860's story sounds very interesting. I love a good nursing-back-to-health story. And barn sex, who can resist a story with barn sex. ;)
I agree with the person who suggested you call them Elizabeth and William. Although, I think you could get away with Spike. Sounds cowboyish to me. And I think you could get away with Buffy as a nickname too.
Anyway, I hope I've managed not to offend anybody and I just want to say I'm behind you all the way in your creative endeavors.
