So now that Gen. Collin Powell has endorsed Obama, are we supposed to forget that it was his active lying to the UN Security Council that paved the way to the bloody quagmire in Iraq that has taken the lives of thousands of innocent civilians as well as our own soldiers? Or is it okay to remember that he is just as dishonorable as McCain?

And I know it's popular to handwave his actions away. "He was just being a good soldier." Fuck that shit. He knew he was lying. He did it anyway. "Following orders" is not a defense. And no matter what he does now, no matter who he endorses, I will never forgive him for trading on his supposed integrity to sell an unjust, unjustified, bloody war.

If I live to be one hundred, I will never understand why everybody wants to give Powell and McCain passes for dishonoring themselves in front of the nation.

He totally fucked that up, yes.

On the other hand, he totally WON with this today:

"Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, he's a Christian. He's always been a Christian," he said. "But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, 'He's a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists.' This is not the way we should be doing it in America."

Yeah. Too bad he was part of the administration and politics that helped perpetuate the Muslim=terrorist myth in this nation. Instead of nipping the fear in the bud after 2001 before it had a real chance to take hold of the culture, he helped perpetuate the Arab=Muslim=Terrorist stereotype/myth by participating in the "We fight them there (Iraq) to stop them here" cover-up and lie.

Maybe he feels a twinge of conscience for his hand in this unmitigated disaster. Maybe that's why he's speaking out now. Too bad he couldn't be bothered six years ago when it might have mattered.
