The other day I wanted to watch a video clip of something. But the sound didn't work! Oh no! Actually, my laptop has done this before, so I just restarted and opened the video again. But the sound still didn't work!

This was very troubling. I left alone for the day because I didn't need to see the video that bad. So I tried again yesterday...the sound still didn't work! I considered posting and asking for assistance, because I really didn't know what the problem could be.

It occurred to me that if I did post and somebody responded, "Is the volume turned up?" and I said "Um...I don't know..." I'd look like a fool. To make sure I didn't look like a fool, I checked the volume.

Which was turned down all the way because I had unplugged my earphones, and I don't like listening to the random sounds my computer makes (with the chat programs etc).

Oops.

Aren't you happy you didn't ask for help?

My friend Vita once wasn't that fortunate. She called the IT depatment of where she was working because the internet and local network on her computer didn't work. They asked her if she was certain that the cable was plugged into the wall socket. It was, she said, but oh wait there was a different cable here that wasn't plugged into anything.
They told her to try plugging that one in instead.
She did.
It still didn't work.
It didn't work because it was the other end of the same cable.

:::raises hand::: I've done that a time or two. Usually though it's because my daughter has been playing with the keyboard and managed to mute the sound. That's my story anyway.

That happened to me once. I was freaking out because I thought something was wrong with it.

It must be a sign of extreme intelligence :)
