I ran into Dr. Kahan and told him what happened and he was so indignant on my behalf. His first reaction was a shocked, "Why wouldn't they accept you?!" I agreed it was a mystery. He then admitted that I may be as smart as him, lol. Suffice it to say, after our conversation, I felt much better, and I haven't cried since.

I think the biggest problem is that I don't know what to do if I don't continue with school. I have no other plans. But Bailey has information on non-profit organizations and literacy programs, and that sounds interesting. I'll find something. It's just scarey right now.

Here's hoping that no matter what UCI, UoA, and Antioch say, I'll know soon so I can begin putting my post-college career together.

Hooray for the doc!

Maybe you could ask for clarification as to why they rejected you.

Belated *hugs* for your rejection--It sucks so much to be rejected, but I've often found that not getting the things that I wanted ended up working out for the best. (Not that that helped me feel better at the time.) You're a smart, talented woman with lots of great experiences, and you are sure to find somewhere that recognizes your greatness. Being out in the "real world" before you go back to school isn't so bad (says someone who spent the first two years after college reciting "grad school" as a mantra every time my job sucked, which it did a lot). Glad your have a cool prof to make you feel better.

publishing

Say, here's a thought. You want to be in publishing, so ... why don't you? If you do end up working while-or-before going to graduate school, how about a job with a newspaper, magazine or book publishing company. It would play to your strengths, probably wouldn't pay any worse than other options available to you currently -- and give you insight into what's involved besides the actual writing ... which is a helluva lot.
