First: I made a vid in honor of the completion of Mad World. That's right folks, one more chapter, and it's finished. Right Click and Save As
Second: Acknowledgments. BIG THANKS TO:
As always, thanks and love to
slacker_97 for his support and suggestions and patience. Wouldn't be able to do it without him.
My partner in crime,
bubonicplague. Mad World probably wouldn't have happened without her initial encouragement, and wouldn't have been the same without her constant encouragment/threats. Sometimes I wanted to veer from the plan, but she kept the Big Picture in sight and the story is better for it.
sabdhyl and
mouseincanada...these are two very fine, very patient, very thoughtful, very sweet ladies. I used them shamelessly for this story, and I plan on using them shamelessly in the future. :) Like bub, they helped keep me heading the direction I wanted to go, though sometimes I got scared and tried to back down.
redqueen6238 because she cracks me up and encourages my bad behaivor.
kellyhk for encouragement when I needed it and happily answering my questions and explaining certain things to me.
And the plethora of people who have left me remarkable, thought provoking, ego-stroking reviews. Seriously...I write for the reviews. No, not because I want to be told how great I am...but because I want to make something memorable and touching (on some level). Thank you for reading this story even if it seemed scary at first or not your cup o'tea. Thank you for the encouragment. Thank you for sticking with me. Thank you for asking to archive it and thank you for nominating it and thank you for making this so much fun.
Speaking of scary: Announcement.
I have decided what my next project will be. No, it's not going to be the fic set in Utah. It's not going to be Father William either.
It's going to be a sequel to Mad World--called Mad Brilliant. Shortly after I posted the chapter about Dylan, I fell into a conversation with the Devil...er...
bubonicplague. She didn't want a sequel. I didn't want a sequel. She doesn't like babyfic, or fics where Buffy gets pregnant. Neither do I. We both have a very, very strong aversion to it in fact.
So when she talked me into writing a sequel involving a pregnant Buffy, it made perfect sense. But y'all know me too well to think this will be a happy fic, right? In fact, it's going to be...well...not as dark as Mad World, but it certainly isn't going to be sappy or schmoopy or lacking of angst. In my mind, Mad World was Hey, look at these fucked up people fuck each other over just because they can. Mad Brilliant is Look at these fucked up people struggling to become something better than themselves...a struggle they've never had to face before.
Because it's going to deal with sensitive subject matter, I have created a Yahoo Group. You must be a member to read it. Anybody can be a member. However, you must read and agree to the rules. The rules are your warning, and anybody who violates the rules will be banned on the first offense. Here they are:
-I am not interested in stifling discussion or debate.
I'm an English major--if we weren't allowed to debate what we read,
I wouldn't have a major. No, the purpose of this group is to guard
against flaming. I simply will not tolerate flames here.
Period. This is your warning.
While I'm writing the story, I do my best to be in their bodies,
feel what they feel--the good, the bad, and the ugly.
When you say cruel things about them I feel it, and it hurts me
on behalf of them. I am protective of them and I love them,
and I simply will not tolerate flames towards them
2-I am not going to explain or justify anything I write.
All the explanation and justification you need is in the text.
3-If any any point you are offended, horrified, disgusted,
repulsed you will simply STOP READING and won't come whining to me.
Guess what? I don't care. No really, I don't.
Messages like "I'm never going to read this again..."
only make me roll my eyes and say "Their loss."
Just unsubscribe from the group and move on.
Specific Rules for "Mad Brilliant"
1) This story will deal with abortion.
2) I know how the story will end.
3) I will not tell you how the story will end
4) The story is not about abortion
5) I will not change the ending no matter what you say or do.
If you read this story, you do so with the full knowledge that
I know exactly what I want to write and I'm not going to be swayed.
6) This story is not aobut my personal politics. It's not about being
pro-life or pro-choice. It's about two fucked up people who are trying
to deal with what they know to be right and what they feel to be
right and how they reconcile logic with emotions--especially when
emotions are scary and alien to them.
If that sounds reasonable to you, go and join. Anybody who wants to join can at anytime. I'll be starting the sequel some time this week.

Sequel huh? Teach you to say there won't be one, won't it? ;-)
Baby huh? Well. I've got a severe aversion to Spuffy progeny myself, so we'll see how we all handle it.
Is it alright if I beg you not to forget about poor, lonely, chaste Father William? Play elsewhere, but come back to him, please?

Whatever you write is fine by me, because it is THAT good. Thanks,
Judith
P.S. I commented a while back about Buffy becoming pregnant, because I wanted that story -- in the "angsty Pepper way" -- so WOW!!

I've actually been thinking about this myself -- what they'd go through when Buffy inevitably got pregnant. Because she has to -- it's not an annoying babyfic thing, it's just the truth of this Mad World you've created: they never use protection, they fuck all the time, and it will force Spike to face some serious issues. It just has to happen.
And I'm so, so glad you're going to be writing it. That it's not just a vague idea in my head of what would follow, but a Pepper-penned fic.
And that you've expressed your approach as Look at these fucked up people struggling to become something better than themselves makes me so happy, because it's a perfect description of what I imagined as the next stage in these characters' lives, and I'm all proud of myself for having gotten it right.

Gorgeous. Buffy and Spike are so incredibly delicious and I just adore the black and white effect.
I know that was a lot of work that I don't understand *at all* so I just want you to know how much I appreciate it!

As for the fic - still loving Mad World, still getting torn up by it and so glad there will be a sequel, even if I understood and respected your original desire to keep it at the one story. I'm looking forward to your Father William story too. So much. And I am know really glad that I never sent you any graphics - there is no way they could have lived up to what you've done yourself with that vid.
Damn, gonna have to go watch it again. And I've still got the latest update waiting for me as well. You spoil us, you really do. Thanks.

To be totally honest, a lot of "Mad Mad World" has been very difficult for me to read. It's taken a lot of my personal issues and put a big fat spotlight on them. But I trust you as a writer, and I've stuck with it... and so far, you've never let me down.
I think you're definently doing the right thing with making a Yahoo group for this fic. When Nauti made a restricted group for "Older", I kinda thought she was overreacting a little, but now I can see how much shit she avoided by not putting it out there in the open.
All that being said, I can't wait for this new fic! ::smooches::

I'll admit I was looking forward to the Utah fic, but since somewhere along the way I seem to have become your whore, I'll read anything you write.
And I know it'll be good. 'Cause I trust you, babe.
