Ok, this is kinda gonna be long!
I got there at 10 and the doors opened at 11. I was all nervous and hot! I can't believe how warm it is, felt like it was June, not March.
So the doors opened at 11 and soon as we got our seat in the auditorium, I went exploring...and found Danny Strong! He wasn't supposed to be there, he was an unexpected guest. I was so excited that I walked right past his table, too frightened to stop. I went back to my seat and my husband convinced me to bring my camera and ask for a picture. So after gathering up my nerve, I went and talked to him and asked for a question. He said "Of course!" and I got my picture with him. Then I told him how sad I was when they killed Jonathon, and that Andrew was growing on me, but I'll always love Jonathon more. He said "I tried to tell them that if I die, Sarah would walk and it would be the end of the show, but they didn't listen to me." ;)
Then I got up my courage and went to James Leary's table. (Clem). He was so sweet. As sweet as Clem, if not more. A really great guy. I didn't get to talk to him much, but I was surprised at how young and cute he was!
So then George Takai was the first Speaker---and man can that guy talk! He talks and talks and talks and talks some more. Last night on Futurama, it was the ep with all the original Star Trek people and Shatner says to George "Well, how was I supposed to know? You never talk about yourself." Had to be some ironic humor, because George never stops talking about himself.
Next up was James Leary, Andy Hallet, and Danny Strong. These three are hilarious. Andy explained that David likes to pull his horns off at the end of the day, even though they are superglued to his head...James L inserted "Yeha, I mean, if you cut your arm, you could glue it back on with this stuff. It's crazy." And Andy said that DB bitches about his little demon face that they stick on with latex and it peels right off. Ha!
Danny Strong said the best day on the set was when Charisma Carpenter spanked him...three times! He ran around the set telling everybody that CC spanked him, and Greenwalt put his arm around him proudly. ;) Also said his favorite episode was Hush.
Andy was shocked to know that everybody knew Charisma was pregnant during the first part of the season. He said that the crew went to great lengths to cover it up. Someone shouted out "BOOBS!" And he laughed and agreed that Charisma's breasts were bigger (and great!). He also said he's trying to talk the writers into opening a new club in the Hotel. ;) That could be fun.
Then it was time to stand in line to meet James and get a photo. I was sick with nerves and so excited!
So I'm standing in line next to a Star Trek table and noticed they had several books--all written by William Shatner. You know, Bill writes novels about Capt Kirk? Not the whole crew, just Kirk. That's kinda weard isn't it? It's like if James wrote fanfic about Spike...just strange.
Anyway, I'm standing in this long assed line that had easly 200 people, and I'm looking out over the room. I thought James was already in his little room behind some curtains, so i wasn't expecting to see him. Then there he was. Walking across the annex with people surrounding him, right through the middle of the room, so in between the tables and stuff. I was absolutely, totally speechless. I was trying to get people's attention because nobody was looking at him, but I couldn't move. All I could do was stare. he stopped at James Leary's table and talked for a few seconds. The first thing I noticed when I saw him was that his hair was slicked back and he looked just like Spike. (You know what I mean. Usually at cons, James looks like James, not like Spike.) Indeed, for a split second I thought it was Spike. I was scared! Of course then I realized it was James, and I was just totally excited.
Then he disappeared behind the black curtains, and I was left to wait. The nice con volunteers came by and signed my ticket and numbered it, indicating that I was 69. (heh). Actually, I didn't stand in line too long after James showed up. Soon, i was in the room, waiting for my turn to bask in the glow of his presence. I was able to observe him with other people, and he hugged most of them, shook hands with others, chatted, smiled, and LAUGHED! God, I love his laugh. I love his smile. My insides were melting. During the pictures though, he looked like Spike again--the intense stare, no smile. Guess he was going for authentic. Mmmmmmmmm. He was wearing blue jeans, a tight black t-shirt, and his weathered leather jacket. He looked YAMMY.
When the person in front of me was getting her picture, I started freaking out. In my addled state, I didn't realize that James probably noticed the fact I was starting to freak out. The girl next to me was like "It's cool, just breathe. You'll be fine." I was like "Yeah, sure, this is JAMES!" Anyway, I walked over and he immediately grabbed me around the waiste and pulled me close to him for the picture.
Oh. My. God.
Can I say it again?
Oh. My. God.
Oh God.
So, I remember to breathe, and I notice that he doesn't wear cologne. He smells a bit bitter and sweaty, but not bad. in fact, it was really, really good. He was warm. He was very tight and muscley, and he had a really good grip on me. Then they snapped the picture, and instead of letting go, he squeezed me tighter.
Oh. My. God.
That was the best thing ever. Sqeeeeeeeezed. I returned the sqeeze, he let me go, shook my head, and I force out a "thank you" and he replied "Of course." His tone was soft, it was his serious voice. I love his serious voice. He was looking me directly in the eye, and he had a bit of a smile, and I think I fell in love. I walked back to the auditorium on shaky knees, almost unable to breath, relishing in the memory of being so close to him.
So, I was on a high from meeting James. That's the only way I can explain what happened next. There was an auction, which included a large, framed poster of Spike. Witht he poster was a smaller, autographed photo. Very yammy. I think it was a $250 value. I bid on it, and won it for $90. Kinda felt bad about that, but Goddamn, it's a gorgeous poster.
So, next up was Juliet Landau. Beautiful woman. She is simply stunning, and extremely friendly and gracious. She really loves the character of Drusilla. She says that Dru was not sleeping with Angel in S2, but was being pulled between "these two magnificent men." She also said Dru dated the Chaos demon to get back at Spike for falling in love with the Slayer.
Next up we got the Make-up guy for buffy and Angel. he loves his monsters equally. Nothing really important.
Next up was Nick Brendon. NB is a good guy. Very funny. Very, Xander-like. He said that he will be looking into sitcoms during "pilot" season in May when he's done filming BtVS. he said he's very sad about that, but ready to move on. Also said that he and his wife are looking into developing a sitcom themselves. He explained why Xander left Anya at the alter--"I was too young and not ready, and thought it was painful to leave her, it would have been even worse if I had stayed." I asked if Xander and Anya were going to get together again and he said "No." I also asked if they ever planned an arc for Xander, and he said "No." They just use him as they need him. Someone asked him if, since he was the only normal one, was Sunnydale his fantasy world. He laughed and joked that since Xander can levitate, he's no longer powerless. I cannot stress enough that NB was joking about levitating. He did Not say that Xander is going to get special powers.
What he did say was that Spike was the coolest character on BtVS. "Kickass clothes, kickass hair, and a kickass accent." He said he wouldn't end up with Buffy because "she likes dead guys." He also said he learned a lot from Sarah, Tony, and James about acting.
He was a really funny guy, and I' mglad I got the chance to talk to him, if it was only for a second.
And then...James!
*sigh* James is so beautiful.
Anyway, I was able to get several pics of both NB and JM due to my proximity to the stage, and I hope to post those soon.
James got a lot of compliments on his body and he seemed kind of uncomfortable. He even said after one particularly blatant comment "Seriously, guys get as shy and uncomfortable about this as women do." Nobody believed him though.
He got more giggly fangirl questions than serious questions. I asked him if he could give us a hint about Buffy and Spike in the finale and he said "It's dramatic, romantic, painful, but good." Someone said they didn't want pain and he assured them, "No, it's good, it's good." Later someone asked him about Buffy and Spike having sex and he laughed and said, "Well, she won't have me." He also said that Buffy and Spike had a really complicated, complex relationship and it was all tied up and twisty, but in the finale it would "open up, *pop*" (He made the poppy sound as he opened his hands.) That comment really, really gave me a lot of hope.
Overall, he seemd pleased with Spike right now. He did not like all of the torture and everything the put Spike through. he did say "That's how you know Joss loves you, by the way." As my husband noted--Getting dumped on==love. I'm thinking that Joss isn't going to destroy Spike's character in the finale after spending all season establishing how much he loves him. ;)
He said that his knee his better, which is good, because it's just in time for the finale, which begins filming a week and a half. NB said there will not be any spinoffs, but James said there might be one eventually, and plans change on a regular basis. He did sy that he will be on Angel, and he didn't seem to know that Angel hasn't been renewed. He also added that the beating in DT was really hard on his neck and back, and he still hasn't completely recovered from it.
Filming will begin for 22 in a week and a half. In three weeks, all the filming will be completely wrapped up. Then it's over. James said that he was going to start looking at other projects, but Joss told him he wanted him on Angel.
So, when it was my turn to talk to him, I gushed about Lies my Parents Told Me, and he smiled and thanked me. *Swoon* I love the way he looks when you talk to him. He's completely focused on you, and it's like there is nobody else in the room. Just the two of you. *sigh* He has beautiful eyes.
After I returned to my seat, James Leary ran on stage and they kissed! It was just a short, chaste kiss on the lips, but it was there. ;) James smiled and said that he loved Leary, that he just saw him in the play and "he was a real shit, but you loved him anyway." I guess James L is capable ofplaying more than just Clem!
Gah...what am I forgetting? He's really, really hot.
Next was the autographs. They told everybody in line that he would NOT sign the naked pic from Wrecked. If you had that photo, you were shit out of luck, because he didn't have any photos with him to sign. I don't know howmany people were screwed over because of that. Oh well, they could always have him sign a napkin or something.
I know there was at least 300 people, not counting the Gold members who got to go first. That could have been close to 400 people.James sure is a trooper!
I was number 49, so I was in the second group. Remember that the fine folks at savespike.com asked me to ask about the ad, I prepared myself to spit out the question quickly so i wouldn't hold up the line.
Him: (Warmly) Hi. (Does that mean he recogonized me?!)
Me: Hi. I was wondering what you thought of the Variety ad? I know the fine women who put it together, and they asked me to find out.
Him: (Face LIGHTING UP) Oh, it was wonderful! I loved it! I was thrilled. Everybody was congratulating me...my publicist, you can't buy publicity like that! IT was really great!
Me: I'm glad you liked it. (As they bustle me out) It's going to be in Hollywood Reporter too.
Him: REALLY!? (Putting his fist up in the air and cheering) YEAH!
Guy next to him: That was supposed to be a surprise.
Bitchy Woman: You ruined the surprise little girl.
yeah, well, fuck you. At least we got to see his reaction...or rather, I got to see it, and the rest get to hear about it. Honestly, his face was just...glowing. he was so happy. Beingthat close to him when he was that excited and thrilled really gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling. Congrats everybody who made that happen. You did a great job, and I can honestly say that you really touched him.
And then it was over.
*sigh*
But I'm addicted to him, and I hope to see him again soon. He's very warm, very personable, very sweet, kind, excited, and giddy. He seemed happy about the finale, and really gave me hope. All in all, it was a wonderful, beautiful time.
