We watched Iron Man last night--we actually rented it to watch with the Rifftrax. Anyway, I came to the conclusion that "origin stories" are just really fucking dull, and Iron Man is no exception. The only exception is Batman Begins and that's only because Bruce Wayne has deep psychological and emotional issues and Christopher Nolan is a much, much better film maker than just about anybody else in the industry. Tony Stark didn't even seem to have a personality. "Gambling and fucking lots of women" isn't a personality. Of course, they did manage to convey that Stark is wicked smart and wasting his intelligence, but there are lots of super smart people who are also superheroes. Quite frankly, I would rather watch movies about super heroes that are already established and doing their thing. Iron Man was not as aggressively stupid as Daredevil or as offensively dull as Spider Man. Still, I'm glad I never paid to see it in the theater.
