I hate writing an outline, or worse, a synopsis of a novel I haven't created yet. How am I supposed to know what happens before I write it? I can't work that way. I'm discovering a story the same way readers discover the story.
I mention this because I'm entering a contest for Harlequin's new EPIC line. It's due on Oct 31, but I won't be starting the novel until Nov 1. I wrote the first chapterof course (which is what they want) and now I'm working on the synopsis (the other part of the submission package). It's frustrating.
Speaking of frustrating, I should hear back from the Blazing Summer contest on Saturday or Monday. i never win anything, so I'm not expecting anything, but it'll feel good when I can put it behind me. I figure I'll revise the 2nd and 3rd chapters, tighten the synop if it needs it, and just submit to their slush pile.
Now back to work...
