I woke up this morning with a sore throat. "No big," I thought. "I'll just get something to drink." Except, the soreness didn't really go away. All day long, I've had the sensation that I'm choaking. I try to clear my throat (which is feeling worse and worse) and there's nothing to clear, which makes me think something back there is swollen. Meanwhile, I couldn't shake my absolute feeling of exhaustion all day. And I have a headache. One of those dull, throbbing ones that you just can't seem to shake no matter what you try.
I've been prepping for tomorrow's final session for the past 90 minutes. I still have another hour's worth of work to do. I recognize these symptons though. If previous patterns hold true, I won't really be able to speak tomorrow and I won't be able to swallow at all.
So should I drive to my 2 hour tutorback session, spreading my germs all over the Pasadena Kaplan Center with a raspy voice, or should I instead email my boss tomorrow morning, explain that I'm sick, and reschedule for early next week? On the one hand, I feel like a really big jerk for calling in sick before I'm technically out of training. On the other hand, will it do any good to go if I can barely speak? Also, I think volunteering to take on my first student (it was an emergency situation after all) this week might have given me a few brownie points.
