Ok, so maybe the minor freakout yesterday re: my first day was a bit unwarranted. I found the place without much trouble, and the lessons went really smoothly. The kid I'm working with his bright and eager to do the work. The drive is a bitch, but I worked out the compensation rate (.38/mile) and it turns out I'm getting paid about $10/hour for the driving. So I guess I'll live.

Now I must have food. Since I skipped over breakfast this morning and it's just shy of dinner time.

What do Cheech Marin, Don Cheadle, and Jack Black have in common?

They're all on The Golden Palace! Which, incidently, is a funny show and should have lasted more than one season.
I woke up this morning with a sore throat. "No big," I thought. "I'll just get something to drink." Except, the soreness didn't really go away. All day long, I've had the sensation that I'm choaking. I try to clear my throat (which is feeling worse and worse) and there's nothing to clear, which makes me think something back there is swollen. Meanwhile, I couldn't shake my absolute feeling of exhaustion all day. And I have a headache. One of those dull, throbbing ones that you just can't seem to shake no matter what you try.

I've been prepping for tomorrow's final session for the past 90 minutes. I still have another hour's worth of work to do. I recognize these symptons though. If previous patterns hold true, I won't really be able to speak tomorrow and I won't be able to swallow at all.

So should I drive to my 2 hour tutorback session, spreading my germs all over the Pasadena Kaplan Center with a raspy voice, or should I instead email my boss tomorrow morning, explain that I'm sick, and reschedule for early next week? On the one hand, I feel like a really big jerk for calling in sick before I'm technically out of training. On the other hand, will it do any good to go if I can barely speak? Also, I think volunteering to take on my first student (it was an emergency situation after all) this week might have given me a few brownie points.
