Further notes from watching the Dr. Kahan in its native habitat:
He no longer asks people to call him "Jeffrey" (I never did because that assumes a level of familiarity that quite frankly I don't think is appropriate for a professor but that's neither here nor there) because he felt he was losing respect, so he's reclaiming his last name and his doctorate.

Oh god, my memories are gone! *weeps*

Prof Flakey has a character insight!

I stopped by her office and chatted with her today, and the subjet of Dr. Kahan's bizarre personality change came up and she told me what was going on which I basically already suspected. THen the conversation continued and she said "I think you have a thing for cruel men..." and I said "Not quite." And she said "Cruel men who are nice to you. It's all over your writing...and a lot of other things you do."

She's right. I do. And yet, my husband is the nicest man on the planet and probably would die before being mean to anybody. Even the people who deserve it.

So Tired...
