Chapter 25

William woke up and reached for Buffy, but got nothing but a handful of sheets. He opened his eyes slowly against the bright winter light and glanced around the room. Her clothes from the night before were still in a pile on the floor, and the sheets were half off the bed, the quilt was gone completely. He could hear the heater running and feel the warm air gust against his skin. He strained his ears and thought he heard her in the kitchen.

William stood up and wrapped the sheet around his waist, too lazy to look for clothes. He followed the sound of her singing softly and the smell of eggs down the hallway to the kitchen. She was in a large, puffy white robe, standing over the stove, and singing Jingle Bells under her breath.

I finished California Stars just now. 161 pages, 59,880 words. I'm going to send it to use [livejournal.com profile] sadbhyl for beta-services. In the meantime, I'm going to focus on Be Thou My God and get the ball rolling on California Nights.

I do have one small comment on the final chapters. I didn't want to bash any character for any reason, but Riley became nothing more than Captain Plotpoint, and that's just something we're all going to have to live with.

And now, I must eat pudding.
