Not only does Spike still suck at the whole communication thing, even though it looked like there was a bit of hope in that area before the whole Tara mess, but he's also so worried about and scared of what *may* happen in the future that he's being an idiot and destroying the present. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Good thing Buffy is smarter than that.
